For those who, like us, believe in space as a living entity, walled-in buildings hold hostage within themselves space that is in distress. Built with the purpose of protecting the inside and preventing decay, they forget the violence they pose to the outside, to the public space.
These buildings come close to the medieval tradition of punishment, either inflicted or voluntary, by walling. Religious fanatics or women accused of madness or witchcraft were subjected to this practice.
