Remédios à Lapa Building
The project brief called for the extension of a vertical house located on a small plot in the Lapa district of Lisbon, through the addition of two new upper floors dedicated to bedrooms and attic spaces.
Inside, the staircase emerges as a central element. Detached from the enclosing walls, it frees the space and allows air, light, and sound to flow continuously throughout the full height of the house, turning circulation into an open and uninterrupted experience.
The organisation of the new floors pursues this same sense of freedom. Circulation areas are reduced to a minimum and concentrated at a single point — a pivot defined by a system of sliding doors that allows spaces to expand or contract, adapting to different uses and moments.
